been informed that the cost,

estimated between

17,000 and 25,000 dollars, is at their charge.

The Representative in Hong Kong of

Thos. Cook & Son (who are

closely connected with

the Wagons-Lits Company) has been rendering

assistance in this matter, but has reported that

no concession in reduction of this expenditure

could be obtained by him.

The case is one of force majeure, but

on the basis that the siding and material

employed on it will become the property of the

Kowloon-Canton Railway, in which it is understood

H. M. Government have an interest, the Wagons-Lits

Company have asked that consideration be given to

the already large expenditure in which they are

involved, and I am asked to submit for your con-

sideration that the cost of this siding, in the

circumstances, might be shared equally between

the Wagons-Lits Company and the Kowloon-Canton

Railway.

I appreciate that consideration can only

be given after reference to the Authorities in

Hong Kong, and I should

be grateful if you would
